The MIT Arab Startup Demo Day is a platform to showcase MENA-based (or focused) startups. Each selected startup will be given the opportunity to pitch their startup to a wide audience which includes early-stage investors. They will also receive a virtual booth to showcase their work and interact with the public.

Diwama (Reseco) – a smart waste container that sorts paper, cardboard, plastics, cans, glass and electronic waste from a household waste bag won first place at the 2020 Berytech e-Hackathon, the first virtual hackathon focusing on clean technology organized by Berytech under the Cleanergy Program, and supported by the Embassy of The Kingdom of The Netherlands in Lebanon.

Diwama is introducing Artificial Intelligence into waste management to drive recycling revenues. Diwama’s product “Vitron” is an AI-based image recognition software providing automated waste analysis for waste sorting and recycling facilities. Data is collected on waste streams and translated into actionable insights to optimize facility performance, increase both recycling rates and recyclables quality.

September 10, 2021, St. Louis, USA — For his environmental activism, entrepreneurial spirit, and focus on social contribution, Christopher Arida of Lebanon has been selected as a 2021 JCI Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World (JCI TOYP) Honoree in the category of Business, Economic, and/or Entrepreneurial Accomplishments. 

During his university studies, he was the Vice President of the Air and Waste Management Association student chapter. In 2020, he led two beach cleanup events with over 65 volunteers in five different Lebanese areas. In collaboration with Empower, a company in Norway, and as a response to the crashing Lebanese economy and sanitary crisis, they made 400 USD from selling plastics collected from the cleanups and donated the money as medicine to the elderly.
